Needless to say, I never imagined my first President’s message would be on this subject. This past year has been an amazing spectrum of highs and lows, culminating this past month with the celebration of opening our third office in Chatham and also a celebration of the life of my father. The latter comes as a complete shock and was decades too early. The outpouring of support, stories and kind words have given us the support to get us through the tough times. For anyone that really knew my father, it will come as no surprise that there is no hiccup, no interruption to the business as a result of his passing – he taught us his whole life to be prepared for life without him. We will never understand why; we will never reconcile the reason but we are fortunate to be students of his; and we are lucky to be able to live our life in a way that attempts to emulates the way he lived life. The Cole family will carry on in a way that we feel honors the traditions that he started. The employees of Cape Associates will continue to work every day to be the leading custom builder in the area, responsible citizens of the community, paying our civic rent forward in a way that improves the community around us.
The message that follows this is an unedited message from my father. He labored over this message for quite some time and we discussed it thoroughly. His main intent was very much in line with his consistent, calming influence. He wanted to reassure customers, friends and employees that things would remain the same and that the business would continue to operate as it has for the last few decades. We promise this will hold true. Further, he wanted to reassure everyone that he would continue to be around to support and nurture the business, employees and customers alike. This, too, will hold true. Though he will not be here physically, his influence is unmistakable. On behalf of all the employees, I promise you that we will carry on his traditions, honor his promises and continue to work hard every day to earn your trust and earn your business.
